On October 15, 2026, the verified X handle “MATT” (@MatRZ313) posted a video in Persian showing a woman in a white dress and sunglasses being surrounded by young men taking selfies with her. Several of the men have coloured powder on their faces, which suggests the clip was filmed during Holi celebrations. The caption claimed she was a European tourist whom Indian men crowded around “as if they had seen an unidentified creature”, said she was “lucky they didn’t attack her”, and called India one of the most dangerous countries for women because of high rape rates. The post drew about 46,600 views. Fact-checkers have labelled it propaganda. The caption invents details about who the woman is and what happened, and uses a single crowd clip to push a broad, hostile generalisation about India. There are genuine concerns about women’s safety in India, as in many countries, but presenting a selfie crowd as near-assault to smear an entire nation is misleading. Such posts should be checked against the video’s original source before being shared.
