Fact-checkers have found that the viral footage is more than five years old. On August 21, 2021, defence journalist Man Aman Singh Chhina posted the Army’s statement on X along with the same clip. According to the statement, during an organised, supervised and monitored training activity near Pathankot, the 9 Corps Recce Troop Competition, severe weather conditions led to one fatal casualty, and a few individuals were admitted to the Military Hospital in Pathankot for medical care. The Instagram page defencesquad also shared the video that day with a warning that the visuals might be disturbing. It drew over 43,000 views. The clip shows fellow soldiers trying to help those who collapsed in extreme heat during a physically demanding competition. It does not show punishment, abuse or a new incident. Recirculating the old footage without its date and context misrepresents a tragic training accident, so a video’s original source and date should be checked before it is shared.
